Sustainable Warwick Minutes

October 15, 2025

Our Pollinator Pathway group has had a very successful year working in Mountain Lake Park. Learn about all of the work they have done – from winter seed sowing, to pulling invasive plants, to establishing a couple new gardens – in this copy of their presentation

Committee Reports

Green Screen: We were grateful that all 4 candidates for Town Board participated in interviews to share their answers to questions about the potential for town-wide composting and the future of PDR. Please read their responses before you go to vote.

Composting: The Food Scraps collection work at the Warwick Farmers’ Market continues apace. As of this week, the committee has already collected more than 12,700 pounds of food scraps this season. Instead of going to the landfill and potentially creating methane (an intense greenhouse gas), these food scraps will ultimately contribute to making richer soil in local gardens. Volunteers still needed for the November collections. See the available dates and times here or reach out to the committee at Garden@sustainablewarwick.org

Book Club: The library system has many copies of Total Garbage available. Our club read and discussed this book at the October meeting and found it was a good read that reviewed many actions citizens can take to reduce waste and leave the earth a better place. At our November 11th meeting, the club will be discussing Abundance, by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson. BookClub@sustainablewarwick.org

Climate and Energy: SW has been invited to arrange a group tour of the newly built all-electric homes in Warwick Isle. If you would like to participate, please email us. CleanEnergy@sustainablewarwick.org Date/time is TBD.

Anti-Trash Survey: The team working on this project has had a wide range of suggestions as they continue to fine tune the survey they are preparing about waste reduction opportunities in Warwick.

Upcoming Events

Mark your calendars! Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 3 PM we’ll go on a hike with Warwick Parks Director Sam Walter. Meet up in the parking lot at Hickory Hills Golf Course (go waaaay to the end of the parking lot to find the trail head). The new trail to Cascade Road is roughly 2 miles long. The trail itself is smooth and has good footing, but there are lots of small hills to go up and down along the way. Some of us will hike one way, others will hike the full round trip. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. SteeringCommittee@sustainablewarwick.org

Potluck Dinner Hosts Wanted

  • Farmer-to-Table Dinners: In previous years, members have enjoyed participating in Farmer-to-Table dinners, where a local farmer or other local hero is the guest of honor at a potluck dinner. If you would like to host such a dinner, please let us know.

  • Annual Holiday Party in December: Date and place to be determined.

Our November monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 19th, at 7 PM. Please keep in touch!
