Programs and resources referenced in the “Warwick Valley Waste Not Survey” are listed below.
If you know of other resources in our area, please let us know!
Coolest Recycling Drive: This recycling drive is hosted each spring and invites local residents to conveniently drop off their old household appliances with refrigerants at no cost. The refrigerants recovered allows for the prevention of a surprisingly large quantity of greenhouse gas emissions.
Food Scraps to Compost: This program collects food scraps, excluding dairy or meats, at the seasonal Warwick Farmers’ Market. The organic matter is turned into nutrient-rich soil, keeping the carbon out of the atmosphere and producing compost. And far less waste at the household level. Alternate drop-off sites: Goodmaker Acres drop-off held year-round on Friday – Monday, between 9-2pm only; and Grow Local Greenwood Lake collection held throughout the year at Common Ground Community Garden and the seasonal Lakeside Farmers Market.
From Our Home to Yours: This group is more than just the average "free stuff" group. It’s building a local gifting economy focused on fostering community, not just exchanging items. This group encourages the giving and receiving of both tangible and intangible gifts and reducing waste. Join to share, lend, and give freely, with the sole reward of helping your neighbors. Open to Warwick, Florida and Greenwood Lake residents.
Hazardous Waste Collection: Visit the site to learn specific details about one-day events held throughout Orange County for the collection of hazardous waste materials.
PaintCare.org: PaintCare makes it easy to recycle leftover paint. They operate recycling programs on behalf of paint companies and encourage households and businesses to take their unwanted, leftover paint to a PaintCare drop off site.
Recycle Coach App: Free mobile app designed to help make recycling and solid waste information more accessible for Orange County residents. The app connects residents with their personalized collection schedule, shares local disposal information and supplies educational tools to help make it easier to recycle household waste items.
Repair Café of Warwick: These are free community events where you bring your broken but beloved items and volunteer repair coaches help you fix them. The café is hosted several times a year at the Warwick Senior Center.
TerraCycle: The local program collects used oral care products at the Albert Wisner Public Library offering a recycling option for products typically thrown away. (Look for the Zero Waste Box in the lobby.)
Too Good to Go: Free free food recovery app that makes it easy to make a positive impact on the planet while saving money on your favorite foods. The #1 app for reducing food waste, you can save tasty unsold snacks, takeaway meals, and ingredients straight from shops, cafes, grocery stores, and restaurants in your area.
Too Good to Toss: These are town-wide swap events held enabling perfectly good clothing and household items to find new homes and keeping them out of the landfill.
